This year our amazing student council decided to do another 3v3 basketball tournament. “Last year was a major success so it only made sense to do it again” Kate Grice said. Kate Grice, the Junior Vice President organized the tournament. “The tournament is really fun for the whole upper school, and we want to make it a new tradition that is looked forward to every year,” said Grice. There were 10 teams that entered, and they all had to pay 10 dollars to play. Multiple varsity basketball players entered the tournament including Jake Agoli, Chandler Bing, Eric Chatfield, KJ Greene, Jackson Ferry, Gavin Jefferies, Jaydon Avery, LJ Moore and Brian Clark The draw was set for 4 rounds, single elimination winner takes all. KJ’s team started with a dominant victory over a Sophomore team led by Jaydon Avery. Matthew Hall, an aspiring PRUMC basketball player also led his team to a narrow first round win. “I put the team on my back and made some clutch shots to get us through the first round,” said Hall. However, Matthew came up against another tough Junior team led by Thomson Brumfield in the second round. The game went back and forth, but Brumfield’s team stamped their ticket to the semifinals. Chatfield’s team had a devastating defeat in the second round against a strong team led by LJ. The two teams in the finals were Brumfield’s Junior team against KJ and other Seniors. The game started off quickly with the Juniors making some early threes to go up 12-4, however, Senior Ross Bernath elevated his game and the team scored 11 unanswered points. The final score was 18-16 and the game was clinched by Bernath who made back-to-back three-point shots. The 3v3 basketball tournament was run smoothly by the amazing Junior student council, and hopefully, the tournament will continue for many more years.
