Every year, celebrities gather for the Golden Globes to celebrate the best motion pictures and television productions of the preceding year. This annual tradition began in 1944 and is now continuing for the 83rd year, presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Actors, directors and others are nominated for awards, but before the winners are announced, all celebrities walk the red carpet. Year after year, celebrities’ red carpet looks catch the attention of social media, where people share their brutal opinions of the high-end outfits. This year, the 83rd annual Golden Globes took place on January 11th and was hosted by Nikki Glaser for the second year in a row. As one of the biggest figures in comedy, she playfully roasted many celebrities in attendance while also acknowledging the talent in the room. Nikki Glaser’s joke about Leonardo DiCaprio has caught the media’s attention; she roasted him for his younger dating history, admitting that it is an easy, overdone joke. She jokes that the acknowledgment of Hollywood arts might not be the most pressing issue in the world right now, but she recognizes the impact that the art of television has on communities across the globe.

Every year, the public eye debates about the best-dressed celebrity who walks the red carpet before the Golden Globes. Every celebrity is wearing a high-end fashion brand with an outfit custom-made for this annual event. Some of these brands include Chanel, Versace, Dior and many others. Some of the most common opinions of the best dressed include Selena Gomez, Amanda Seyfried and Teyana Taylor. Vogue journalists attended this year’s event and had a strong opinion on the matter. They credited Conner Storrie and Hudson Williams with the best red carpet debut looks. They also enjoyed the bright colors used by Wunmi Mosaku. The Pace community also had a strong opinion about these celebrities’ outfits; some, like Ann Rosengren, claim that Adam Brody and Leighton Meester were the best dressed, while others, like Ella Reagan Roth, claim that Nikki Glaser and Elle Fanning were the best dressed.

What made this year’s ceremony particularly striking was the appearance of black-and-white anti-ICE pins worn by several celebrities. High-profile stars such as Mark Ruffalo, Wanda Sykes, Natasha Lyonne, Ariana Grande and Jean Smart were photographed wearing pins reading “BE GOOD” and “ICE OUT.” These symbols were part of a coordinated effort to honor Renee Nicole Good, a woman recently shot and killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis. This is a tragedy that has sparked widespread protests and national discussion about ICE policies. Some celebrities wore these pins on the red carpet, some even wore them in the event and some mentioned ICE in their speeches.

Today, the Golden Globes recognize 28 categories, celebrating achievements in motion pictures and television. The awards include individual performances, best series in drama, best animated motion picture and many more. Many are nominated for each award, but only one winner is given based on votes from entertainment journalists. At the 83rd Golden Globes, “One Battle After Another” dominated with multiple wins in multiple categories. This year, some of the most notable awards can be attributed to Timothee Chalamet in “Marty Supreme” for best performance in a motion picture, “Sinners” for the cinematic and box office achievement, “Hamnet” for best motion picture drama and Owen Cooper in “Adolescence” for best performance by a male actor in a supporting role on television.
