The Distracted Scholar’s Guide to Literature and Drama is a one act play written by Peter Bloedel about the different eras of famous literature and drama in an easy to follow and entertaining format. On October 6 and 7 performances of this play were put on by the middle school theater department. From auditions to opening night these talented actors have been working hard to bring smiles and laughter to the faces of the audience. When you are in the play you and your cast members become a close knit family as you prepare for opening night. Cast members will work hard to learn their lines, memorize their blocking, and perfect the bits and pieces of what makes the play while making new friends in the process. From my experience, theater is a great way to be yourself, make new friends, and get out of your comfort zone. Here is a quote from Ansley Kirbo on her experience with the middle school play.
M: Who was the character(s) you portrayed?
A: “I was a narrator and a flight attendant.”
M: What was your experience?
A: “I really liked being on stage and bonding with the rest of the cast.”
M: What was your favorite part of the whole production process?
A: “My favorite part of the whole experience was the performance itself, it was so much fun to see the whole show come together in the end.”
M: How did you bond with your fellow cast members?
A: “My fellow cast members and I bonded over all the amazing food the moms brought for us.”
M: Who is your favorite Pace Acadamy Middle School drama director?
A: “Obviously, Mr. Campbell!”
As you can tell, middle school play is an amazing experience for everyone in the middle school to enjoy. No matter the part, everyone in the theater productions contributes something important that makes the performance amazing for opening night. The cast is then rewarded with an amazing cast party put on by the volunteer moms. Speaking of volunteers the Pace Arts Alliance contribute to many of Pace’s amazing arts experiences, the most recent being Kishi Bashi. So if anyone would like to contribute you can donate or even join. Anything that can help the creativity of young minds.
Be sure to watch out for the Middle school musical Freaky Friday. A story about a mother and daughter who switch bodies and have to live a day as each other. How freaky is that!
