Ms. English’s love for music began on her grandfather’s lap. Every Sunday she would sit and listen to keyboard music in her grandparent’s home in Georgia. The first instrument that she played was the violin. She was inspired by a woman playing it during the church mass. She played the violin from kindergarten until the 5th grade, then in 6th changed to the obo because it sounded funny. Her siblings are involved in music as well. She and her brother both played in the same band. She says her parents have supported her throughout her musical journey which led her to Kennesaw State to study music performance and education.
Ms. English believes “music is important and it can also be an escape.” This philosophy motivates how she teaches her Upper and Middle School students. She would love for the Pace Band to grow to include other instruments, such as the oboe, marimba, and bassune. Ms. English teaches her students techniques for their certain instrument with patience and kindness. Overall, Ms. Savannah English is a wonderful addition to the Pace Band program!
