On Monday a deathly earthquake hit Türkiye and Syria. As of this writing, more than 6,000 buildings have collapsed, and more than 11,700 people have died. Australia has made a donation of 10 million dollars to assist Türkiye and Syria. 7 million dollars are going to Türkiye, the main area of the earthquake, and the other 3 million to Syria.

According to the president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, this is the largest natural disaster in this area since 1939, when a 7.8 magnitude struck the country. This quake on Monday was a 7.5 magnitude earthquake.

Many countries have offered help to these countries including the US, Iraq, Australia, Qatar, and Israel.

The high school at Pace has sent out an email on how you can help. You can bring in supplies, donate money, or help bake for the bake sale! You can email 10th grader Aliyah Aftin aliyah.aftin25@paceacademy.org for more information on how to participate.
