Ellen DeGeneres to Speak at Graduation
Graduation is only a month and a half away, and many seniors are feeling nostalgic. Reminiscing on the fond memories they have experienced during their time at Pace, seniors are both sad and excited to move on. The Class of 2016 has been looking forward to graduation day for a long time, but one special aspect will be particularly memorable. Forget receiving a diploma; the main reason that the seniors will be putting on a cap and gown is to listen to the one and only Ellen DeGeneres. Yes, the word is out – Ellen will be speaking at graduation on Saturday, May 14.
“I cannot wait to hear Ellen’s speech,” said senior Tory Dancu. “I love her as a person, and love the positivity and generosity she spreads.” A comedian and talk show host since 2003, Ellen DeGeneres is one of the most influential people in the world today. Known for her numerous philanthropic works that she broadcasts on her television show “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Ellen is regarded by many students as hands down the best spokesperson ever to be giving a speech at a Pace Academy graduation.
Last year, the Class of 2015 enjoyed actor Robert Downey Jr.’s graduation speech. The feeling of enthusiasm and utter surprise that filled the Peachtree Road Presbyterian Church was exhilarating not only for the seniors but their families and other guests. Bringing such a well-known celebrity to graduation made their last moments as a Pace Academy student even more special.
But some believe that Ellen DeGeneres’ appearance at graduation will be even more unforgettable. “I am the absolute biggest fan of Ellen,” said senior dean Brooks Fleming. “I watch her show every day and will remember this moment for the rest of my life.”
According to Ellen’s agent, she will be including a few pranks and games similar to those on her talk show. Word on the street is she might even bring a celebrity friend along with her. The campus is already buzzing with anticipation.
