The spring season represents more than warmer weather and an influx of pollen for those within the Buckhead community. The 34th annual Pace Race 5k Peachtree Qualifier Course and One Mile Race is quickly approaching. The race is set for Saturday, April 9, with the one mile starting at 8:30 a.m. This event is an annual tradition for all runners, walkers, phantom runners and spectators alike.

The Pace Race benefits the Pace Academy Booster Club, which in turn supports all of the school’s athletic programs in each division (Lower, Middle and Upper Schools). The course, USA Track & Field certified, follows a flat road in the heart of Buckhead, West Paces Ferry, and starts and ends at Pace.

The schedule is as follows: Registration (7 a.m.), 1 mile Fun Run Start (8:30 a.m.), 5K Start (9:00 a.m.), Awards Ceremony (10:15 a.m.), live music,  DJ and activities for the younger participants (10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.). The music entertainment includes bands, such as Streetwise, Francisco Vidal Band and Alchemy. Price of registration ranges from $25 to $100, depending on whether it is for an individual or a group of four. Participants also receive limited edition shirts that are only available on the day of the race.

One of the more interesting components of the race is the chip timing, which provides more accurate measurements. “Last year’s Pace Race and its atmosphere was a great experience for everyone, even though I didn’t run the entire time,” said sophomore Justin Morris. All potential participants are welcomed to register and support the Pace athletic department.
