The wrestling team went 3-0 in their home opener this evening including a HUGE win against Westminster!

The first match of the day was against Westminster. Jonathan Boss had a really nice pin at 126 lbs, Ratcliff, Hadley, Walsh, and Salyer received forfeits, and those that lost wrestled close matches and avoided getting pinned, which kept us in range. The match came down to the last wrester, Frank Houser at 138 lbs. He needed a win to secure a victory for the Knights and he delivered with a first period pin. Pace came away with their first victory against Westminster in several years!

The second match of the evening was against area rival Chattooga and also came down to the last bout. Jackson Fuller wrestled a good match that he ultimately won by disqualification when his opponent used a series of illegal moves. Jack Walsh made short work of his opponent getting the pin in less than a minute. Ratcliff, Harris, Asher, and Holmann each received forfeits. Eric Shank was injured in his match against Westminster so the Knights’ only chance at victory would be to bump up the three middleweights, Jonathan Boss, Ben Thompson, and Frank Houser. Jonathan and Ben were both beaten, but Ben avoided the pin, which kept the match tied 35-35 going into the final bout. Again, it all came down to Houser, who came through with a first period pin to seal the victory!

Maynard Jackson did not have a full squad so the Knights won easily due to an accumulation of forfeits. Dustin Hadley, Jackson Fuller, and Frank Houser all had pins against Maynard Jackson.

Special credit goes to Walker Harris, Ben Thompson, Eric Shank, Jack Walsh, and Jamaree Salyer for competing today after only two days of practice.

The wrestling team is now 5-2 and will compete again on Saturday at the Westminster Dual Meet Tournament. Wrestling starts and 9, so if you are in the area come out and support your Knights!
