Out of many thousands of entries, Pace students had a strong swing at the 2012 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards at the region level. Pace is in the South Region which consists of 13 states from Texas to West Virginia. With a total of 11 awards, Pace students won the most of any school in Georgia. This includes beating out several arts-focused academies. Awards included a Gold Key, four Silver Keys, and six honorable mentions. Senior Michael Christianson’s Gold Key-awarded poetry will advance to the national level. Junior Katja Martin recieved two Silver Keys for a memoir and poetry. Seniors Alexandra Sugarman and Lauren Sukin also each got a Siver Key — Alexandra for her short story and Lauren for her poetry. Also notable are the four honorable mentions for seniors Taylor Esler (poetry), Katie Kibler (short story), Brintha Renganathan (memoir), and Alexandra Sugarman (poetry). Juniors Alex Paré and Ben Hirsch also garnered honorable mentions, Alex for poetry and Ben for humor.
