Practicing spelling together

French A students (6th grade) are practicing the French alphabet. Each student has a different master sheet with French names and they are helping each other practice spelling and understanding French letters.

First skits in French A

The first “real” day of class for French A (6th grade).  We had had a few short classes of 15 minutes already and today we are putting in practice some of our French greetings.

Learning Greetings with Puppets

Today was the first day of normal classes in terms of length (45 minutes).  In French A we were learning how to ask a person’s name, give your own name, and introduce a new person (in an informal situation).  We used a variety of puppets to be the “new kid”.  Here are some videos of our work.

Art Lesson

In Honors French we are beginning a lesson on how to talk about art in French, so we invited Mrs. Sibley to come in and give us an introduction on how to read a painting. She also taught us about the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, and Beaubourg and got us up to speed on the different types of art found in the Louvre vs. Orsay and how you recognize an Impressionist painting.  Merci, Mrs. Sibley!

Speed Dating

French B students practiced new vocabulary about shopping for clothing and recycled old vocab with an activity we call “speed dating”. Students spend 1-2 minutes facing a partner before moving to another desk, in a circular pattern.  On each desk they find a card that matches the card their partner has, giving them a task to accomplish through negotiation with their partner and practice. The next day, students were quizzed on one of the card sets, chosen at random.

Paper Bears

Screen Shot 2015-09-21 at 12.12.48 PMFrench B has just started a Unit about shopping and our first lesson includes clothing vocabulary. Today we practiced talking about what people (well….bears) wear by working as a whole class and also in smaller groups to describe clothing being worn.  First, I modeled for the students how to say what the bear is wearing (L’ours porte…). Students would describe to their classmates 5-7 items of clothing worn by the bear. All of the other students in the group or class would use the paper clothing cutouts to dress their bear.  Once the bear was dressed, another student would call back the correct outfit as a check.  We enjoyed giving the bear strange combinations of clothing and then all laughed, announcing “l’ours est nu” as he got ready for his next outfit of the day. #OOTD
